Been  awhile since I last posted. Am safely in my new house, and (partly) unpacked. I have my DVDs out, my computers and TV up and running and my favourite book on the shelves, beyond that i can quite happily live in a box city.... besides I have nowhere to put the rest of the stuff. I like the new place the people I'm living with are lovely and best of all they have a cat... really what else do I need in my life.

I decided to start rewatching all of highlander... from the first series on. I don't think I'd realised the first time round how irritating the young Richie was (sorry Richie fans). He definitely grows over the series, Mac's obviously a good influence on him. And Tessa is awesome I just watched her face down Felice Martin with a blow torch :0). I get so caught up with how much I love the Amanda, Methos, Joe and Duncan interaction of the later series I'd forgotten how fun these early episodes were.

I haven't done any writing in weeks but I have lots of ideas floating around that I want to write, almost too many to know where to start though I'm going to try and get something out for this weeks gw500. Too many ideas too little time.

The first season is *so* different from the rest of the series. They really seemed to have a different focus on how Duncan lived with his immortality. But a bunch of those episodes are quite fun.

The first series is almost like a series of mini self contained films it's as the series go on that you start to see a longer story unfurling. Then there's Duncann himself of course, Duncan in a stable relationship with Tessa is very different to Duncan gathering together friendly immortals and seeking out wrongs to right.

I think it's because we all fell in love with a certain older immortal, but the early series were great like little mini films. Enjoy the rest of your watching too :0).

I've said for some time that the early episodes are needed to understand the Duncan of later episodes. I love his relationship with Tessa. She was such a strong and independent woman. And, yes, Richie was irritating. Only he really never grew out of that as far as I was concerned.

Tessa was brilliant, I cried like a baby in series 2. I agree absolutely if you don't watch the early episodes you miss so much that defines Duncan. I find it really telling how different some of his responses are here in the first series to how he would react later, and yet how in other ways he remains unchanged.

It seems like he seeks out conflict a lot more after Tessa dies, and he is much more focused on an extended network of friends. A lot of those earlier episodes don't involve other immortals at all.

I'm not a big fan of Duncan, but Amanda definitely brings out the best in him. Methos and Joe playing off each other is wonderful, great snark and quite a bit of depth.

Looking forward to seeing what you do for gw500.
