I have been merrily eating my way through all the junk food in the area for the last 6 months or so, and my weight which has always been on the (shall we say) high side has reached new peaks making me now officially obese (i feel like I should have a party or something after all those years on the edge of it). Plus the amount of crap I eat and sitting around doing nothing all day is not good for me. So starting from the 1st (I know a staggering 4 days ago :0) ) I have changed my eating and exercise habits in a bid to return to a nice healthy weight, and to be able to walk up my stairs without collapsing at the top from exhaustion. At 28 being out of breath after a stroll to the local shop is not a good thing.

Today I went swimming for the first time in ages, an hour of lengths I did nearly 0.9 of a mile (56 lengths to be precise) not great but good. At my fittest I used to do 1 mile in 45 minutes or 2 miles in 2 hours (the second of course being significantly slower). Just as I was congratulating myself on not being as chronically unfit as I thought I was I got out and had to walk up the hill to the station (a 5 minute walk), half way up I'm out of breath.... maybe I am that unfit after all.

Anyway i wanted to share that little milestone and a few things I noticed: a.) If I'm going to do this regularly I need a new swimsuit - one that stays up when I actually move without me having to keep pulling it up. b.) I wasn't the slowest person doing lengths (yay me). c.) if you have an optician's prescription of -10, contacts and good googles are a must if you don't want to be blind. d.) just as schools get out is not a good time to go swimming if you are trying to avoid crowds. e.) not checking times of trains and the time the pool is open before going leads to lots of waiting and wandering around.

Now I have to go eat... apparently that hour swim all but doubled the amount of calories I'm supposed to eat today besides I'm really really hungry.

Tldr: I actually did exercise today and I didn't die

Good for you! Swimming is very good exercise, too. Your body is going to appreciate all this work.

Thank you, it's certainly going to let me know it tomorrow though I can already feel it in my shoulders :0).

It feels good to be active again though.

Swimming is great exercise and it's easy on your joints. Good for you! (I'll just reiterate that!)

It's just about the only exercise I actually enjoy as well. Though I don't mind walking so long as no hills are involved. Swimming though I could happily do all day.

I love swimming, which is probably just as well because I'm allergic to just about every other type of exercise out there. I break out in a severe case of 'can I stop yet?'
