I had rather too much fun this morning writing one of those you know you're obsessed if... lists. Thought I'd share.
You know you are a manga/anime addict when
- You correct people when they call one of your books anime, (it’s manga damn it,)
- You have to stop yourself from adding –san –kun or –chan to your friends names, and sometimes fail.
- If you have ever thanked someone absentmindedly in Japanese instead of English for passing the salt.
- Whenever people talk about household cleaning products you immediately think of hollows and Shinigami.
- You know what hollows or Shinigami are
- You know what a Gundam is (and want one)
- When you start a new novel you have to turn over and open it from the other side because you automatically started reading from right to left.
- You read or write fanfiction, (or lists like this).
- You need to buy some new DVDs so you can free up some more space on your hard-drive so you can download the newest episode of your current obsession.
- You have ever considered calling a pet (or child): after a Gundam pilot, a shinigami, samurai, ninja, or young girl/boy with special powers.
- You know what Go is, or have ever made or laughed at puns involving the number 5.
- You have manga/anime based icons and wallpaper on your computer
- You can understand most of a Japanese conversation about talking cats or death threats but have no idea how to ask for directions.
- You have an opinion on the different merits of shojo, shonen and mecha-manga.
- You had to buy new larger shelves to store your manga which are now overflowing.
- You have more DVDs in Japanese than English (or whichever your first language is).
- You have ever had a conversation about whether the anime or manga of a particular series is better.
- You know what the term scanalation means
- You know what yaoi, yuri, shonen ai and shoujo ai mean
- You have online conversations about whether character relationships are canon or not.
- You watch anime with subtitles because it gives a better understanding of the characters.
- The manga section is your first stop when you enter a bookshop.
- You have a favourite fansubbing group (but will grudgingly download from someone else if they release first).
- Your friends have never seen an episode of anime in their lives but still know all the character names. (Or they would except they always get this glazed expression and stop listening)
- You are a member of all the livejournal/ insanejournal communities involving your favourite series.
- You have a favourite Seiyu (Sorry can’t find the symbol for the slash over the u)
- You know what a Seiyu is
- You have downloaded opening and ending themes
- You want to correct any of the spellings or details from this list.
- You have any more examples to share.
